Hey Dennis it’s Noah I like your site.
Saw your article about Biking Paris in New York Times online (or was it the Washington Post?). Anyway, read every word and related to every word because my wife and I have been to Paris many times and the last three times there we have toured with rented bicycles. You are exactly right: it IS the perfect touring vehicle; fast enough to cover ground and slow enough to see everything. Easy to park and — also easy to take occasional advantage of “shortcuts.”
Our first time, years ago, we joined a tour at Mike’s Fat Tire, then convinced, took out on our own and have become evangelists for bicycling everywhere. In the states, when we travel by car we carry our bikes and when we fly somewhere farther, we rent either bicycles or a car with rack AND bicycles.
And I’m going to steal Mary Oliver’s motto: Instructions for living a life. Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it.
I wanted to thank you for your comments. I like the idea of biking wherever you go on vacation. It’s a way of getting my daughter away from the TV in the hotel room! Happy trails, Dennis
